Surgery for Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is movement of the pelvic organs from their original location. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as pelvic trauma, childbirth, age, constipation, high impact sports, heavy lifting, etc. Your surgeon will help you determine the type of prolapse you have and will discuss your treatment options.

There are a variety of repairs available for pelvic organ prolapse. Depending on what your surgeon finds during your consultation, he/she will recommend a specific type of surgery.

Interstim

Interstim is a treatment using nerve stimulation to improve communication between the brain and the bladder to normalize bladder function.

This exciting piece of technology has changed the world of urology for physicians and patients alike as they seek treatment for symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB) and non-obstructive urinary retention.

If you’re ready to try something new and cutting-edge that’s proven to offer real relief, ask your provider about InterStim.

Bladder Botox

Bladder Botox works by calming the nerves that usually overstimulate your bladder muscles and lead to an urgent feeling of needing to urinate.

This injectable treatment works to prevent the contraction of muscle. When injected into the bladder, this can help to prevent urinary incontinence, urinary urgency and/or urinary frequency.

Your physician will discuss this treatment option with you to determine if Botox is right for you.

Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus.

Depending on the reason for the surgery, a hysterectomy may involve removing surrounding organs and tissues, such as the fallopian tubes and ovaries.

There are a variety of reasons that a hysterectomy would be appropriate. They are also varying types of hysterectomies and your surgeon will decide what type of hysterectomy is appropriate for you.

Urethral Sling

A urethral sling is a treatment for placing the urethra in an optimal position to empty the bladder without

experiencing urinary leakage.

This surgery is done to treat stress urinary incontinence in women. The sling supports the urethra, which is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body.

This procedure can be performed individually or in conjunction with other types of surgery, such as a prolapse repair. A discussion with your surgeon will determine if a urethral sling is right for you.
